The building was completed in 5 months from first concrete pour to setting the furniture.

The project was completed in a little over a year and had a large change order in regards to the building information technology systems. The building exterior includes oversize brick, slate, glass, and ground face block. The round, two story atrium sets the building apart from any structure in the region. When visitors ask for directions to the Institute, most area residents know exactly which building they are referencing due to the unique construction.
The Institute is a facility that includes teaching space, administration space, a grand atrium, an auditorium, a conference center and research/laboratory space. The two story wing for teaching and administration has state of the art classrooms, conference rooms, and office space. The heart of the building is the clearstory atrium that is a round, two story, full height glass space. The atrium opens into a 200 seat teaching auditorium and the Great Hall. A large conference center with a seating capacity of 800, the Great Hall can be separated into 6 smaller spaces. It is flanked by access halls and a catering kitchen. The research wing is a two story wing that has been upfit to include automotive labs, plant biology labs, plastics labs, and graduate student space.
